Stand up paddle boarding (SUP) is the hottest trend in water fun and fitness, but it’s far from new. Originally an ancient form of water transport, Hawaiians made it a surfing sport in the early 1960s. it then dropped out of the public eye for decades, until world class surfers brought new attention to the sport.

SUP utilizes a long board much like that for surfing, and a paddle similar to that for kayaking. You can sit, kneel, or stand to paddle. It offers a tremendous overall workout. Especially when in stand-up mode, you use the body’s core muscles, strengthen upper and lower body, and hone your sense of balance and coordination. It also gives you a great view atop the water!
